September 17, 2014

McCain Foods Ltd. has joined the Advisory Board of the DISCO project as an industry advisor. As an international leader in the frozen food industry, besides many other food products, the production of potatoes is at the heart of McCain’s offering and products, which can be found in thousands of restaurants and supermarket freezers in more than 160 countries around the world.

The potato, as the core ingredient of McCain Foods Ltd. is one of the targeted plants in the DISCO project. Potato leaves contain the terpenoid Solanesol which is used in the production of high-value bio-chemicals such as Coenzyme Q10. Co Q10 is useful in cosmetics as well as the treatment of heart diseases, cancers and ulcers.

As part of the DISCO Advisory Board, McCain Foods Ltd. will provide knowledge about commercial and industrial growing of the potato crop which may greatly benefit the outcome of the DISCO project.
