Representing the DISCO project, Prof. Oliver Kayser (Technical University Dortmund) and Friederike Ullrich (Boehringer Ingelheim) gave a talk on Tuesday, 21 June 2016 at the 6th International Symposium Breeding Research on Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (BREEDMAP 6) titled “1H NMR- based metabolite profiling of tropane alkaloids in Duboisia spec”.

Twenty years after first being held in Quedlinburg in 1996 and after five successful conferences in Chania (Greece) in 2000, Campinas (Brazil) in 2004, Ljubljana (Slovenia) in 2009 and Vienna (Austria) in 2012, the 6th International Symposium Breeding Research on Medicinal and Aromatic Plants returns to Quedlinburg from 19-23 June 2016.

Customers all over the world are interested in products based on natural sources, which is coupled with a permanent demand for high-quality products. Prerequisite are new varieties and lines of medicinal and aromatic plants with better resistance to biotic and abiotic stress, with adaptation to different conditions in cultivation, and finally with an increase of active principles (which are responsible for a good taste). Even though there have been many breakthroughs, for a broad range of medicinal plants much can still be done in order to improve quality and quantity. The BREEDMAP 6 Symposium provides a platform to share new results and techniques with an international audience to create new ideas and fruitful collaborations in this promising field.
