DISCO on a visit to the Golden State

January 11, 2017

Early in the year the DISCO project left for a guest visit to the United States. From January 8th to 13th DISCO partner Ralph Bock from the Max-Planck-Institute of Molecular Plant Physiology chaired the 2017 Gordon Research Conference on Chloroplast Biotechnology, held in Ventura California. Next to Ralph, Joseph Hirschberg from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem presented results from his research in a talk titled: "Increasing Plastid Compartment Size in Tomato Fruit through Manipulations of the Abscisic Acid (ABA) Signal Transduction"

The Gordon Research Conference on Chloroplast Biotechnology presented cutting-edge research in all areas relevant to chloroplast genetic engineering, biotechnology and synthetic biology. Leading experts introduced novel approaches to chloroplast genome engineering and new tools for plastid gene manipulation and transgene expression. In addition, new applications in metabolic pathway engineering, resistance engineering and molecular farming were presented. Target products included biopharmaceuticals (vaccines and therapeutic proteins), industrial enzymes, green chemicals and next-generation biofuels.
